Great things are happening in our library under the guidance of Liz Quezada, our Library Tech. She writes:

In kindergarten, we read "The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School." In the book, the Pout-Pout Fish feels discouraged after he finds himself lost in school and struggles to complete the tasks that the other students can. However, his teacher finds the lost little fish and takes him to the kindergarten class, which is meant for brand-new fish. She tells the Pout-Pout Fish that school is the place where students learn to print, write, do math, and draw shapes. The teacher reassures him, saying, “Now don’t you fret / You haven’t learned yet / I am here to help you learn… And I know that you can do it!”

In 1st grade, we read "First Grade Stinks!" This cute little book explores the differences between kindergarten and 1st grade. At first, the main character is upset because everything is so different, but in the end, she comes around and learns to love 1st grade!

2nd grade had their first book checkout! Everything went pretty well, and the students understand that book checkouts are earned through good behavior. Next week, when they bring back their books, I plan on having a book discussion where I would like them to share what their book was about. We also created our own bookmarks.

In 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, we played Lotería (Mexican Bingo)! I created my own library-themed Lotería, and it was a success. I also gave out candy to the winners. I apologize for not discussing this with you all beforehand. Please note that candy is not a regular reward I give to the kids—it's only for special games. I will continue to focus on encouraging good library behavior with the students. Currently, I have implemented a one-book minimum for checkouts due to many missing books. I informed the kids that if I see books being returned and taken care of properly, I will increase the limit to two books per week. This week, we also created our own bookmarkers, and I hope to have them laminated so the students can start using them in the library.( Mrs. Ramirez your class will be checking out books and creating book markers this upcoming week)

Liz gives a huge shout-out to Mrs. Edwards 4th and 5th graders! They have been using the library independently and appropriately. It has been wonderful to see them use quiet voices, utilize bookmarks, walk respectfully, and show consideration for one another.

🚨 Air Quality Update for Entiat Schools 🚨

Today, representatives from Chelan-Douglas Health District visited our district to conduct indoor air quality testing and provide additional support in response to the ongoing Lower Sugarloaf Fire smoke.

We are grateful to them for delivering 4 large Iso-Aire Elite Commercial Air Purifiers (learn more at www.ISO-aire.com). Two units have been placed in the Elementary School and two in the Middle/High School. These units are designed to significantly improve indoor air quality for our students and staff.

The safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priority. We will continue to monitor both indoor and outdoor air quality closely, seek input from Chelan-Douglas Health District, and make adjustments as needed. We extend a heartfelt thank you to CDHD for their partnership and support in helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment in our schools during this challenging time.

This morning, we were thrilled to welcome our students back for the first day of school! Day 1 is always a special time filled with energy, smiles, and lots of learning. Much of today is focused on teaching and reteaching important routines and expectations that set the tone for a successful year. Students reviewed bus safety, cafeteria procedures, and playground rules to help ensure everyone feels safe, respected, and ready to learn.

We are proud of how quickly our students are adjusting and are excited for the great year ahead!

The Pomas Fire continues to grow. Incident Commander Ryan Nicholls and Public Information Officer Ben Shearer provided an update to the school board Wednesday night. Incident Commander: Ryan Nicholls Size:1060 acres Incident start date: June 13,2025 Cause: Lightning Location: 36 miles northwest of Entiat, WA Fuels: Dead and down timber Resources: 2 crews 3 helicopters 52 overhead 1 water tender Total personnel:109 Current situation: The Pomas Fire is burning in heavy dead and down timber from the 2015 Wolverine Fire in the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Winds continue to spread the fire north into Ice Creek as well as south on both sides of the Entiat River in steep terrain. Crews are reporting active spotting and group tree torching as the wind pushes the fire. Firefighters and heavy equipment are actively reopening containment lines that were used in past fires in the Tommy Creek and Shady Pass area. Crews have also been wrapping key infrastructure, such as the Myrtle Creek bridge, with protective fire-resistant materials. “The forest is drier now than it was in 2015. After dropping 377,000 gallons of water on it starting on day one, the fire still is actively torching out there,” said Incident Commander Ryan Nicholls. “Our main focus is life safety and protecting values at risk.” The forecast is for warmer temperatures and windy conditions. The large amounts of dead timber in the area, winds, and low humidity with critically low fuel moistures continue to challenge safe and effective firefighting efforts. The Southeast Washington Type 3 Incident Management team took over day-to-day operations of the incident on June 22, at 8 AM. Evacuations: None, there are no structures or homes threatened at this time. Closures: The Glacier Peak Wilderness on the Entiat Ranger District, including Ice Lakes, is now closed for fire operations and public safety. Additionally, Silver Falls trail and campground are now also closed for firefighter and public safety. The fire is 12 air miles from the Pacific Crest Trail and currently poses no threat to that trail. https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/okanogan-wenatchee/alerts/area-and-trails-closure-due-pomas-fire-entiat-ranger-district Smoke: Smoke is forecasted to be visible from nearby communities including Wenatchee,Chelan, and Winthrop. Thank you to the Washington State Parks department and the Chelan County sheriffs department for presenting a Paddle Safe program to our 7th and 9th graders. (9th gr. pictured here). Our kids learned about proper paddling technique, safety on the water, how to save themselves if they capsize, and of course, the importance of always wearing a life jacket. Kids had a great time.
